Laura Hamlet is a TV comedy writer and US Navy veteran and has a BFA from NYU hanging up in her bathroom. She’s an alum of the Writers Guild Foundation’s Veterans Writing Project under mentors Simon Rich (Miracle Workers, Man Seeking Woman) and Bobby Teletovich (Space Force, United States of Al.) Laura is an active member of the United States Veterans’ Artists Alliance and Film Independent and co-leads the VWP/SAG-AFTRA Table Reads Series. She’s an Austin Film Festival Semifinalist.
Originally from Colorado, Laura escaped to New York City at seventeen and grew up somewhere between bad decisions and, well, worse decisions. However, all that changed when she enlisted in the US Navy, learned the value of integrity, and developed a life-saving sense of humor. While serving, Laura maintained fighter jet electrical systems—rounding out her former resume of eclectic job titles like janitor, drug dealer, stripper, egg donor, green card spouse, record store clerk, casino server, TV news editor, etc.
Outside TV writing, Laura writes tech, business, and leadership books and is the author of the children’s book series Goth Baby. She has two daughters and a rescue mutt, runs ultramarathons, and is happily approaching a decade sober and drug-free.
